01. November 2024
Ladies and Gentlemen,
After many months of delay, the Heidelberg Institute for International Conflict Research is very pleased to announce the publication of the Conflict Barometer 2023.
The HIIK Conflict Barometer has been published annually since 1992 and is an internationally recognized and widely cited source for quantitative and qualitative reporting on the annual global conflict situation on almost 200 pages, and known for its methodological classification of conflict intensities. The 32nd edition covers the documentation and analysis of global conflict events in 2023 and clearly and uniquely defines which conflicts the Institute and its almost 200 conflict researchers understand as “war”, “limited war”, “violent crisis”, “non-violent crisis” and “dispute”.
Summarized research results from the year 2023 will be presented at an online event and press conference on Thursday, November 7 at 11 a.m. (Central European Time). The web service Zoom will be used for this purpose, where you can register directly for the online event: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZMvcOyvrDkqHd0UU6TxAxTWpJ1iwnVsyj2W. We invite representatives of the press, HIIK members and researchers and interested members of the public to attend. Please note that the event will be held in English.
We will send a press release to selected press representatives at the beginning of next week with a qualifying period until Thursday, November 7 at 12 noon. If you are interested in receiving such a document in advance, please send an email with your name and organization to info@hiik.de.
The Conflict Barometer 2023 and the associated data sets will be available for download on our website https://hiik.de/ after the event. Subsequent changes to the document after publication cannot be ruled out.
Finally, we once again ask for your understanding that the 2023 edition of the Conflict Barometer will be published later than usual this fall due to multiple complications at the technical and personnel level; however, we are still on schedule to be able to publish the upcoming edition of the current year 2024 regularly in spring 2025.
Thank you for your interest.
Yours sincerely,
The HIIK Board of Directors
20. October 2024
After months of waiting, plenty of (partly contradictory and outdated) announcements and technical and organisational issues on all fronts, we can finally announce a set publication date for the Conflict Barometer 2023.
The 2023 CoBa will be published and presented on November 7th, 2024.
As in previous years, we will celebrate this publication with a press event and presentation that will take place during the morning hours, most likely between 10 and 12am. Official announcements and invitations will follow.
05. Juni 2024
We at HIIK are aware that many of our readers and partner organisations are eagerly waiting for the publication of the 2023 Conflict Barometer. While our research is long completed, we have encountered serious data issues this year and will have to postpone the publication to the end of June / early July. A specific publication date will be announced here and on our social media pages soon.
